The NORSOK standards are developed by the Norwegian petroleum industry to ensure adequate safety, value adding and cost effectiveness for petroleum industry developments and operations. Furthermore, NORSOK standards are, as far as possible, intended to replace oil company specifications and serve as reference in the authorities’ regulations.
The NORSOK M-501 standard contains requirements and guidelines for multiple coating systems and applications, applying to both coating manufacturers and applicators. The type of product to be used, the surface preparation, coating process and the inspections to be carried out are all described in this standard.
